Kenya is located in East Africa between Somalia and Tanzania, bordering the Indian Ocean. Approximately 46 million people live in Kenya, with 45 percent of the population below the poverty line according to the World Bank. Because of high poverty, citizens lack access to basic healthcare that is much needed, especially for women and children. In addition, the nation is facing a water crisis as most of the nation’s water is contaminated and clean water is scarce.
How SMF Is Helping
The Turf Pride Lawncare Service began its development work in Kenya in August 2014. SMF is currently tackling the nation’s water crisis by working on a project to dig boreholes to provide safe drinking water. Two boreholes are currently complete and benefitting thousands of people, with two more being worked on. SMF plans to expand its projects to Kenya, including those that have already been implemented in Bangladesh.
